Michael resolves Sales and Use Tax audit and refund matters by demonstrating a level of professionalism that can be quantified and measured with the tax savings for the firm’s clients. Tax Assessments have been cancelled and reduced and Tax Refunds granted in the millions of dollars from both the Audit Division and appeals at the Bureau of Conciliation and Mediation Services (BCMS).
Also, quality results can be achieved for the firm’s clients with a Determination rendered at the NYS Division of Tax Appeals (NYSDTA) or a precedential Decision issued by the NYS Tax Appeals Tribunal. However, and preferably, Michael is recognized by all parties involved in the tax appeals process for negotiating excellent results with the Audit Division during the administrative tax appeals process at the NYS Division of Tax Appeals (NYSDTA).
Sales Tax Expert and is considered one of the area’s leading authorities in the sales/use tax area. Prior to this position, Mr. Buxbaum was a Group Chief in the Sales Tax Division of the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance. He is a frequent speaker and author concerning sales tax issues.
Mr. Buxbaum was awarded FAE’s Outstanding Discussion Leader Award and was the recipient of the NYSSCPA’s Special Recognition Award. He is a senior member and former chairperson of the NYSSCPA’s New York State, Municipal, and Local Taxation Committee. Mr. Buxbaum is also a former member of the New York State Tax Advisory Committee and the New York State Tax Appeals Tribunal Advisory Committee.
